Abstract
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease commonly experienced by the elderly and is characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and decreased pancreatic function. Aging causes physiological changes that affect glucose metabolism. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as autogenic therapy and herbal remedies like soursop leaf decoction have been developed as alternative approaches to help reduce blood glucose levels. This study aimed to determine the effect of a combination of autogenic therapy and soursop leaf decoction on blood glucose levels among elderly patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Posbindu Tanah Baru RW 04, North Bogor, in 2025.This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 16 elderly patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus selected through total sampling. Blood glucose levels were measured using a glucometer. The intervention, consisting of autogenic therapy combined with soursop leaf decoction, was administered for 14 days. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the mean blood glucose level before the intervention was 237.13 mg/dL, which decreased to 193.63 mg/dL after the intervention. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in blood glucose levels before and after the intervention. The combination of autogenic therapy and soursop leaf decoction is effective in reducing blood glucose levels among elderly patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This intervention can be applied as a complementary nursing intervention in community-based diabetes management.
